There is a HUGE need to increase Hispanic participation in clinical trials! It can significantly impact the effectiveness of medications within the Hispanic community. Hispanic physician friends and experts in pharma have shared with me that factors like genetics can influence how a person responds to a particular treatment.
Thus, if clinical trials don’t include a diverse group of participants, researchers might miss important differences in how treatments work across different populations.
For the Hispanic community, increasing participation in clinical trials isn’t just important—it’s essential. Doctors and pharmaceutical experts have found that genetic and physiological differences can influence how a person processes medication. Without enough Hispanic representation in these trials, medications may not be optimized for the community, leading to potential differences in effectiveness or dosage requirements. Simply put, if we want treatments to work as well for Hispanics as they do for others, we need more Hispanic participants in clinical trials.
Yes, we must increase the awareness and education within the Hispanic community, with Hispanic leaders and trusted messengers like Spanish news departments so they can help in getting the word out.
